As Israel came to Mount Sinai God determined to meet with her and give her instruction that would enable her to grow into a nation state as she moved towards Canaan. God’s desire was that Israel would be a nation of priests unto Him, true worshipers of Him who would live according to His word. The giving of the Ten Commandments is one of the greatest events in biblical and indeed world history. Here in the Ten Commandments God reveals His character to us and calls us to reflect it in our lives as we trust in Him. It is important to note that these commandments were given in the context of redemption as a means of honoring God not as a means of getting right with God. Faith alone in Christ alone justifies but that faith alone is never alone, it produces obedience to the law of God written on our hearts by the Holy Spirit.
